Austin Mayor Leffingwell

Brewster McCracken has bowed out of the runoff gracefully, facing a 20 point vote deficit and Lee Leffingwell is Austin’s new mayor.
I’m sure Max will be along soon - when he gets back in town - to give his viewpoint on the Mayor’s race and the future prospects for Austin.

It’s a Leffingwell vs. McCracken runoff. Leffingwell has 47 percent of the vote and Brewster McCracken is next with 27 percent. Carole Keeton Strayhorn is third with 21 percent. The race for mayor will be decided in a June 13 runoff election. The top two candidates, Leffingwell and McCracken advance to that runoff. [...]

Thirty Years of Austin Politics

This Spring is the 30th anniversary of my first run for city council in Austin.
In 1979 I was a candidate for Place One, and that’s when I first met then-Mayor Carol McClelland.  She went on to win re-election, while I finished next-to-last in my race…Lee Cook was re-elected to Place One.
So began my quest for [...]
